Christine Neighborhood Watch
A neighborhood watch that was active in the late 1990's recently
was reactivated through the initiative of Mike Swinnea,
employee of the City of Weslaco and resident of the area. An
interested group met at Christine Pool on June 3, on West 9th Street and
heard from Crime Prevention Officer Bernie Garza and Sgt.
Jose Angel Rodriguez, who presented the neighborhood's crime statistics and answered questions about how to secure their homes and what to
do about nearby weedy lots. The group plans to meet every month.

Center Point Neighborhood Watch
The Weslaco Police Department held a Child ID event at
Center Point Rental Homes on Thursday, June 3. Besides children
and their parents was Weslaco City District 6 Commissioner
Joe A. Martinez, who spoke to parents who attended. The Center Point watch group has been in existence for a number of years and
participates in National Night Out.

"The Palms" Neighborhood Watch

The newest Neighborhood Watch group in Weslaco met at their
apartment complex with Crime Prevention Officer Bernie Garza on
Saturday, May 1. The residents had had a number of burglaries last month
and decided to fight back. If they see suspicious persons inside their premises,
they immediately call the police and ask questions later.

HIDDEN VALLEY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

     This long time neighborhood watch group met on Thursday, May 13. They listened to Crime Prevention Officer Bernie Garza report on crime statistics for their area from the beginning of the year. The most serious event was one burglary of vehicle. The group attending the meeting already is trained in keeping a close watch on who comes to and goes from their subdivision. They regularly log down license plate numbers on unknown vehicles. The residents were particularly concerned about a tractor-trailer rig that parks in the neighborhood in violation of the city ordinance. In addition, they expressed their displeasure for a non-resident who walks his dogs in their neighborhood to "do their business." All in all, the residents of the subdivision have the security of their subdivision well under control.
